we remember you.....SUSI

SUSI     DEAR

YOU   ARE     THE SWEET

BUNDLE

OF

LOVE     AND    AFFECTION.

It is about  fourteen years  ago, she entered our house, and was with us for almost a full thirteen years,
and became a part of our family. Our family never had the experience of having a pet dog at home.
My wife is always compassionate to animals and birds. In fact, she inculcated the habit of such
benign attitudes amongst us  in the family.

Susi, was first sighted by us, as a very small puppy of few months, on the  street, in front of our house,
struggling for food and shelter. She has to protect herself from the area stray dogs, as well as from
men on the street, specially, from school going kids. She found my wife, a compassionate friend  for her
and  was  taking shelter  inside the compound wall of  our house. Susi had her milk , bread and biscuits,
regularly, and in return she showed immense love and affection on us.  Gradually, she occupied the
space in front of the entrance of our first floor house.

Once during monsoon rains, which lasted for several days, my wife took pity of her, as susi
was completely wet due to  incessant rains, and shivering,  due to,  severe cold weather, a rug  was put in the veranda, inside the entrance door, and Susi, came inside  and felt comfortable.

But, we  did not know at that time, she will be with us inside the house for  the rest of her life.
Susi, refused to go out of the house after the rains are over.Everyone had their reactions to the
susi's decision of  staying with us. My wife was not willing to sent her out, Though i have had, intial
apprehensions,  my self and  my sons , decided to have  susi in our midst. But  my father in law,
was not happy about the decision.

Within a day or two, she started roaming through the entire house, and  she started dominating
our lives and  much to the chagrin of my father in law, she entered  his room , and  used his
sofa sets, and became a nuisance value for him.For the rest of us,we loved susi,  and
prepared to put up with her pranks, and  plays.

We also had no idea of having a pet dog inside the house.Susi is also not  a pedigree.

we have none to consult either. So we have decided to chain her. But that caused greater worries, as she became very ferocious and became uncontrollable. We were in a dilemma, yet my wife was not willing to
part with her Susi. Then we consulted the Blue cross  people, and they have guided to us, to  unchain the
dog and also about the periodical  vaccines and about training of dogs.

We have unchained her , except during walks, and also started all the vaccinations with periodicity.
But we have not arranged for her training , due to practical difficulties. However,  once unchained susi became,  normal, and we have followed certain food habits for her, and  yet she was in her youthful
rebellious mood.

Susi, always wanted us to  be with her, play with her and  our routine  life had lots of change.
And we also became addicted to her, as she swayed us with her unbound shower  of affection.
With her golden brown  colour , velvety  skin, glowing eyes, with an undefinable charm and grace,
she  became our darling.

one day, unable to bear her  naughty  deeds, my father in law was very  rough to her. But susi
unmindful of his  dislikes for her, became more attached to him, and  within a few months, they became
affectionate friends, and susi will always lie under his feet, and gave him company, when he was alone in the house. They became so affectionate to each other, and my father in law could not withstand the demise of
susi, and  was in tears .

susi  liked everyone of us. she could recognise all our relatives, and despite some of  them,(who  were afraid of him)due to their notions. She will cooperate with us, while they visit us, and will not disturb them. But in her curiosity, to see who is the visitor, she may sneak in to the hall, and then will go back to her place.

she is very fond of my mother, and whenever I say ,susi, patti is coming, she will get excited and run to the compound gate , to receive her. Once  patti arrives,  she  will run here and there out of excitement and it will take time for her to settle.
whenever, we  go out  either for a short journey, or a long trip. susi never liked it. She will not take
her food,  will be restless, and dull. Once we reach home, she will cry and hug us with her forelegs , over us and express her happiness with her body expressions.

She likes all my sisters, who were affectionate to her. Though they will not allow her to touch them, susi, will always try to hug and  lick them. Sugntha, and viji will constantly tell  susi, to be little away, and susi will obey them. When Ranjani comes susi, will get  more excited. Ranjani will sit on the middle of our  bed, and ask susi
to  sit on the floor. While susi, obeys her, she will express her displeasure  with special gestures.

When hari comes on leave from Delhi, susi will jump to him with her full weight, and give him a good reception.Har is the only strong  person to lift her. Hari will hug her and  susi will enjoy his company.

Krishna is her favourite, and will be with him  and sleep with him till he wakes up. Krishna's friends are susi's
dear friends. Along with  ten to twelve of krishna's friends  , she will be also sitting  amidst them , in that small cramped room, which, we call krishna room.

sivakumar is one of her favourite. susi will listen to him as if she knows, what he is telling to her.
He use to bring  special things for susi from  united states.

Sambasiva mama  is also fond of susi. Susi will get up and give space to him, whenever he  will be going to the bath room at the old building. Leeli chitti is the favourite to susi, while for leeli chitti, susi (for that matter all dogs) is a terror. she will be very nervous to visit our house. But leeli chitti,  on her holiday here,
was with us, and lived with susi. Gradually she  gained confidence,  understood her, and susi earned
her goodwill.

susi likes grand sweets, sweets and savoury snacks. Once during Krishna's birthday we have kept ready, the
mysore pauk , cakes and other snacks on the dining table, Susi felt she is ignored for the party, and also could not resist her  temptation to  mysore pauk.  She leaped to the dining table, took her share of the sweet and
enjoyed her bite.  When krishna and hari order for pizza,  susi, will take a comfortable position in between them, and  crave for her share of  pizza. She likes the ginger bread very much. She was never content about
her desire for such varities. Saravana  hotel  dishes are her favourite. Krishna sweets Mysore pa is  yet another favourite for her.

During the younger years, she use to play with us in the open terrace of the old building, by grabbing the cloth
from our hand and will never part with it. She will challenge us to get the cloth from her.  We can not even withstand  a ten minute tussle with her, as she will pull us, make us run  and we will get exhausted. Then she will comfortably sit, dangling the cloth loose in her mouth. Only Hari has the energy to meet her demand for
a chase and catch.

she loves to go for walk both morning and in the evening. I am known to the people in my street, and in the neighbouring  areas, due to the majestic heroine Susi. She is a well known personality  in our area. At times,
passer by  will ask for the pedigree of the susi, and envy her beauty.

she had her  routine medical check up from Dr.sekar, vet from Blue cross. Regular deworm  doses,
and other medications will be administrated to him. Whenever, the vet visits our house susi, could immediately scent his arrival, she will bark and hide herself in a corner of a room. When I hold her to enable the doctor, to inject her, she will be nervous  and shivering.   Once the Doctor, leaves our premises, she will run to the gate, and bark for sometime, to ventilate her anger, and return after sometime. She will take her tablets, through milk, and will cooperate with us.

susi, lived the  normal life span of a  dog  . Her last days were pathetic. She put on weight. She could not climb steps. Her illness was diagnosed as cancer.  She underwent operation successfully. But she could not withstand the post operation  difficulties and eventually we lost our susi on 6th december  2008. Thanks to the
saidapet, vet hospital, she had a decent burial.

It is a great loss to us.  For susi, my wife shanthi is the ultimate refuge. For her she is amma.  During the last day shanthi felt that susi called her amma in her tormenting pain and agony.  But shanthi,  could not help her ,
except caress  her gently  to soothe her pain.

Now it is all over.   we  are  orphaned  from getting the unconditional love and affection from susi.

ADIEU SUSI...  WE  LOVE YOU FOREVER....
